Managing Your Passkeys
Managing Your Passkeys
Passkeys are a secure, password-free way to sign in to NurseHQ. They work with your device’s built-in security like Face ID, Touch ID, or Windows Hello.
Accessing Passkey Settings
- Sign in to your NurseHQ account
- Click your profile icon and select Account Settings
- Navigate to Signing In (or go directly to Account Console)
Adding a New Passkey
To add a passkey from a new device:
- Go to Signing In in your account settings
- Click Add Another Passkey
- Follow your device’s prompts to create the passkey
- You’ll receive a confirmation email when the passkey is added
Tip: Add passkeys from multiple devices (phone, laptop, tablet) so you can always sign in even if one device is unavailable.
Removing a Passkey
If you’ve lost a device or no longer use it:
- Go to Signing In in your account settings
- Find the passkey you want to remove
- Click Remove
- Confirm the removal
Important: You cannot remove your last passkey unless you have another way to sign in (like a linked Google or Microsoft account). This protects you from accidentally locking yourself out.
You’ll receive a security alert email when a passkey is removed.
What to Do If You Lose Your Device
If you’ve lost a device with your only passkey:
- Go to the NurseHQ login page
- Click Can’t sign in? or Recover account
- Enter your email address
- Check your email for a magic link
- Click the magic link to sign in
- Add a new passkey from your current device
- Remove the passkey from your lost device
How Passkeys Sync Across Devices
Passkeys created on Apple devices sync via iCloud Keychain to all your Apple devices automatically. Similarly:
- Apple devices: Sync via iCloud Keychain
- Android devices: Sync via Google Password Manager
- Windows devices: Sync via Microsoft account (Windows 11+)
This means a passkey created on your iPhone can be used on your MacBook, and vice versa.
Security Notifications
For your security, NurseHQ sends email notifications when:
- A new passkey is added to your account
- A passkey is removed from your account
- Someone uses a magic link to access your account
If you receive a notification about an action you didn’t take, contact support@nursehq.com immediately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a passkey from my phone on a computer?
Yes! When signing in on a computer, choose “Use a passkey from another device” and scan the QR code with your phone.
What if my device doesn’t support passkeys?
Most modern devices support passkeys:
- iPhone with iOS 16+
- Android devices with Android 9+
- Windows 10/11 with Windows Hello
- macOS with Safari 16+ or Chrome
If your device doesn’t support passkeys, you can sign in with Google or Microsoft.
Are passkeys more secure than passwords?
Yes! Passkeys:
- Cannot be phished (they only work on the real NurseHQ website)
- Cannot be guessed or cracked
- Are unique to each website
- Never leave your device
What if I share a device with others?
Each person should have their own user account on the device. Passkeys are protected by your device’s biometric (Face ID, fingerprint) or PIN, so others cannot use your passkey.
